Our amazing team of regular and part-time volunteers are all veterans or related to veterans. We are committed to helping others. We take our convictions and turn them into action.
Mindscape was founded in 2018 by Stu McKenzie, a veteran and professional photographer, he recognised how photography had helped him during depression and understood that it could help others in similar situations.
We use the power of photography and the great outdoors to provide veterans with a space to learn a new skill, a place to breathe and an environment to express themselves through photography. We strive to inspire and improve the lives of those who gave so much.

How photography can help
We provide photographic therapy to veterans with mental health issues. Working with veterans we teach them a new skill, landscape photography, and we provide a place to breathe in an environment that allows them to express themselves through photography.
There is plenty of research that suggests photography can help improve mental health. We all know the benefits of being in the outdoors, so we combine landscape photography, the outdoors and therapeutic photography.
Therapeutic photography is the taking of images and analysing them, this allows veterans to express themselves through photography, and can improve self-esteem, resilience and confidence. By exploring and using photography as a tool for reflection mental health and wellbeing can be improved.
We want to transport veterans to stunning locations so they can be immersed in a peaceful and photogenic environment. Our primary location is the Lake District in Cumbria; however, the United Kingdom has plenty of beautiful locations where workshops can take place.
